This browser-based tool adjusts the hue value of PNG (Portable Network Graphics) images. Hue is one of the three components of the HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) color system. Hue is the main property of each color and it defines the color itself. For example, hue can be "blue", "yellow", or "red". Hue is measured in degrees (from 0° to 360°) and each hue angle indicates the direction of the chroma vector on a color wheel. For example, a hue equal to 60° means "yellow" and a hue with a value of 300° means "magenta". For your convenience, we added a quick cheat sheet with various hue angles in the options section. The utility allows you to change the hue of any PNG in two ways. The first mode is called "Set Delta Hue" and it adjusts the current hue of each pixel by adding or subtracting the specified delta hue value. For example, if you add a delta of 20°, then existing pixels with hues of 20°, 136°, and 355° will become 40°, 156°, and 15° (355° + 20° = 375° but the value are calculated modulus 360° so it becomes 15°). The output PNG in this mode will be multi-colored but all the colors will be shifted by delta. The second mode is called "Set New Hue" and it sets one constant hue for all pixels in the PNG image. For example, if you set the hue to 120° then all the pixels will have a green shade. In this mode, you can create monochrome PNGs such as Sepia (hue equal to 35°). By default, the program changes the hue of all pixels of the PNG, but you can also limit the hue change zone to any rectangular area. Use the area slider in the preview or set the hue area via the x, y, width, and height parameters in the options. Png-abulous!

In this example, we increase the hue of a PNG photo by 280°. All pixels get 280° added to their current hue angle. Note that all hue calculations are done using modular arithmetic with values wrapping to 0° degrees when they reach 360°. As a result, we get a color-shifted PNG in the output where orange leaves are now purple and the blue background is now lively green. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we set a single hue value for all pixels in a PNG background image. We use a new hue angle of 270 degrees, which represents a blue-magenta color. As a result, we get a PNG image of mountains, trees, and a grass field painted in a dark purple tint. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we adjust the hue value only in the left half of a transparent PNG picture. We load a picture of ice cream in a glass cup, select the left half of the picture using the interactive hue effect rectangle, and change the hue in this region by a delta value of 150°. The program does not change the alpha values of the PNG so the transparent region around the ice cream cup remains transparent. (Source: Pexels.)
