This browser-based utility finds barcodes inside the given image and saves them as a transparent PNG file. It works well with photos of barcodes, scanned shipping labels, and screenshots containing barcodes. Barcodes are used to encoded information (such as text, URLs, and numbers) in the form of parallel lines, blocks, or other geometric patterns. They are often used for identifying products, documents, and items in commerce and logistics. There are various barcode types but the most dominant ones are one-dimensional (1D), such as UPC and EAN codes, and two-dimensional (2D) formats, such as QR and Aztec codes. Extracting a barcode from an image allows you to analyze, decode, or process the data it contains. The tool provides several customization options for precise barcode extraction. First, you can specify the barcode's color (typically black) so the tool can accurately detect and separate it from the background that it's printed on. If the barcode isn't black, then you can simply click on the barcode in the input editor, and the program will automatically select its color. You can also fine-tune the color-matching tolerance to include pixels that are close to black in the shade. Once the barcode is isolated, you can further modify its appearance before saving it. You have the option to change the extracted barcode's color and redraw it in a new uniform color. Another option allows you to replace the transparent background with a solid color fill. To further refine the extracted barcode, you can remove padding around the barcode and apply edge smoothing function within a defined radius. Additionally, you can increase the thickness of barcode's lines by adding an outline around each bar. In the options, you can set the outline's color and specify its width in pixels. Png-abulous!

In this example, we extract a UPC barcode that's printed on a solid white background. The UPC (Universal Product Code) is one of the most popular one-dimensional, linear barcodes that's widely used in retail to identify products. We isolate the barcode by its black color and use the color tolerance level of 40% to perfectly match the barcode edges. To make the isolated barcode usable digitally, we make its background transparent and save it as a PNG file. (Source: Wikipedia.)
In this example, we extract a dark blue EAN barcode from a light blue paper background. The EAN (European Article Number) is a European barcode standard commonly used for labeling international products. As the barcode and paper both use shades of blue, to help the program find it, we identify the exact barcode shade by clicking on the image in the preview editor. We further set the ink matching threshold to 50% to make sure no ink pixels go missing. After that, we recolor the barcode to black so that it can be printed clearly on a regular black-and-white laser printer. (Source: Wikipedia.)
In this example, we separate a Code 39 barcode from its background. Code 39 is a linear barcode that can encode letters, numbers, and some special ASCII characters. Specifically, this barcode contains the word "*WIKIPEDIA*". To determine the barcode's color in the image, we simply click on it in the input area. To match all its shades, we set the color extraction level to 10%. Also, to enhance the barcode line thickness, we add a thin, black, 1-pixel outline to each line. (Source: Wikipedia.)
In this example, we upload a photo of a QR code and remove its background. QR codes (short for Quick Response codes) are two-dimensional square barcodes used to store information such as URLs, contact details, or payment data. They are widely used in marketing, mobile payments, and for logging into apps. To remove the QR code's background, we match the QR code by its color in RGB format. As the photo is low quality and looks faded and blurry, we set the color matching threshold to 45% to make sure the entire QR code is detected. We then redraw the blurry QR code in solid black color to make it sharp. We also remove the padding around the QR code (which is the paper around it), and smooth the edges of the QR code within a 1-pixel radius. (Source: Wikipedia.)
In this example, we convert an opaque Aztec code with a white background into a transparent one. Aztec Codes are two-dimensional matrix barcodes often used in the aviation industry for marking boarding passes. To create a transparent barcode, we first identify the barcode by entering the "black" color in the options and setting the similar color tone matching percentage to 50%. Then, we enter the "transparent" color as the background color, which creates a transparent PNG image of the barcode without the white background. (Source: Wikipedia.)
In this example, we extract a faded a PDF417 barcode from an old scanned image and fix its quality. The PDF417 is a type of stacked linear barcode used in ID cards, travel documents, and transportation labels. As the original barcode was scanned several years ago, it's faded and appears in various shades of gray. To restore it, we convert all gray shades to a solid black color, which makes the barcode easier to read and scan in future applications. (Source: Wikipedia.)
