This tool converts stamps and seals containing multiple colors into stamps with only two colors – black and white. Converting colorful stamps to black and white makes them more suitable for high contrast printing and use on official documents, where they must be clearly visible. The tool can also be used for creating stamp negatives for precise physical rubber stamp production methods like laser engraving or molding. Once you load a stamp in the input editor, its pixels are compared to determine the best new color for each of them. The comparison algorithm calculates each pixel's similarity to the black color and the white color. Depending on which color the pixel is closer to, it's converted to either to an absolute black pixel or an absolute white pixel. In the tool options, you will also find two additional options that let you override the default black and white colors. For example, to remove a stamp's background entirely and create a digital high-contrast PNG stamp, you can enter the "transparent" color instead of the "black" color in the options. In this example, we convert a red-and-white stamp labeled "CANCELLED" into a digital PNG stamp with transparency. Instead of using the standard "black" and "white" colors for the output stamp, we use "black" and "transparent". This color scheme is the best choice for a digital PNG stamp as it allows the stamp to be pasted over any text in digital documents (such as Word or PDF) without hiding the text behind it – as it's see-through. In this example, we digitize and tidy up an antique seal belonging to Eva Eusebie, a Czech noblewoman. The original seal has faded colors, blurred ink, and a yellowish parchment background. In this example, we convert a multi-colored visa stamp that recorded our arrival to Chicago via air into a single-color stamp. As there are no white pixels in the original stamp, we use the transparent color in its place. This trick keeps the stamp see-through. For the other two colors on the stamp (blue and red), we pick the "MidnightBlue" as the replacement color. As a result, we get a transparent stamp with all colors converted to MidnightBlue.
