This browser-based tool lets you create a complementary color palette. A complementary color (also known as an opposite color or contrasting color) is a color located directly opposite of the primary color on the color wheel. When using these two colors in a single palette or design, they create a strong contrast and make both colors stand out more. Using opposite colors like this is the standard way to make your designs more bold and attention-grabbing. To generate a pair of complementary colors, simply enter the base color in the tool options or pick it from the color wheel. Once you do that, the tool will instantly calculate the opposite color, mark it on the wheel, and displays the result in the output palette. You can also adjust the lightness/darkness and opacity/transparency of the base color, and the complementary color will match these settings. Lightness can range from 0% (pure black) to 100% (pure white), and opacity from 0% (fully see-through color) to 100% (fully solid color). These values can be adjusted via the sliders near the color wheel or via the options. Both colors in the resulting palette can also be labeled by their color name or code. The tool offers 18 different color formats, including popular standards like RGB, HSL, LAB, CMYK, and advanced formats like LUV, XYZ, YCbCr, and YCoCg. For improved clarity, you can add a tiny border around the colors in the palette. In the tool export settings, you can control the final image output. You can choose to download the full contents of the editor window (including sliders, colors wheel, and palette) or a standalone color palette. In either case, you'll get a lossless PNG file as the output. Png-abulous!

In this example, we select "Yellow" as our base color and the tool instantly identifies "Blue" as its direct complementary partner on the color wheel. Both colors use 50% lightness and 100% opacity, creating strong contrast because they are exact opposites on the color wheel. We draw both colors on the output palette and display their text names next to them. For the download, we choose the full canvas format, including the color wheel and lightness/opacity sliders.
This example creates a soft hue combination by starting with a lavender hue and generating its opposite hue in the HSL color space. The result is a pastel ivory hue, positioned directly across of lavender starting color on the color wheel. Both colors are very light as the lightness is set to "94%" in the settings. In the output palette, we outline each color with a thin line and save only both colors (without the wheel).
In this example, we explore complementary colors with transparency. We set deep pink (represented as rgba(255, 20, 147, 0.7)) as our base color, which is made 30% transparent by setting the opacity to 70% (0.7). The tool then calculates its contrasting color, spring green, which also inherits the 30% transparency (keeps 70% opacity). We display the colors in RGBA format to clearly show their alpha channel values and download them as a standalone color palette.
