World's simplest browser-based Portable Network Graphics (PNG) alpha mask generator. Just import your PNG image in the editor on the left and you will instantly get an alpha mask on the right. The alpha mask shows transparent areas in black color and opaque areas in white color but you can also reverse and customize these colors. Created with love by team Browserling.

This browser-based program creates an alpha mask of the given PNG image. An alpha mask is a visual representation of the transparency or opacity of each pixel in an image. It can be used to create images with smooth edges and varying levels of transparency, allowing the PNG to blend seamlessly with different backgrounds. The transparency property of each pixel is stored in the alpha (α) channel, where the alpha value of 0 means the pixel is completely transparent and the alpha value of 1 means the pixel is fully opaque. The alpha values in the range from 0 to 1 (non-inclusive) signify a semi-transparent pixel. The alpha mask displays the alpha channel values on the screen using two colors. The regions with fully transparent and semi-transparent pixels are black. The transparent pixels are often the background of a PNG and semi-transparent pixels are often on the border between the background and an opaque object. The regions with opaque pixels (independent of their color) are displayed in white. The white regions then show the pixels that are the main objects of a PNG. Since semi-transparent pixels have a wide range of alpha values, the "Real Alpha Mask" checkbox can be activated to use the exact alpha value for each pixel and create a feather mask (the same alpha value as in the original image). Both mask colors can be swapped if necessary in the options, as well as an optional third color can be given to the semi-transparent pixels. Additionally, all three display colors can be changed to arbitrary RGB colors to generate the exact alpha mask you need. Png-abulous!

In this example, we generate an alpha mask of the transparent background of a PNG of an exotic fruit (the rambutan). The output mask has the classic format, showing full transparency in black and full opacity in white. Additionally, the feather pixels that are semi-transparent (with 0 < α < 1) are also displayed in black. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we create a custom-colored alpha mask. We use the purple color to represent areas with an alpha channel value of zero (transparent areas) and the light-sky-blue color to display all other regions (semi-transparent and opaque areas). We also activate the "Real Alpha Mask" mode, which displays the smooth transition of semi-transparent pixels from full opacity (α = 1) to full transparency (α = 0). (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we use the alpha mask generator to highlight the refined pixels around a flying white gull. To achieve this, we set the orange color for transparent and opaque pixels but use a different color, black, for semi-transparent pixels. As a result, we obtain an outline of the bird, which was originally semi-transparent in the input PNG. (Source: Pexels.)
