What Is a PNG Chroma Key Remover?

This browser-based utility removes the chroma key from PNG images. Chroma key is a technique used in digital graphics that helps to create photos and videos with easily changeable backgrounds. The basis of the chroma key is a single solid color background, which is usually green (called the "green screen") and sometimes blue (called the "blue screen"). Such background can be easily removed and replaced with any other background. Chroma key has now become an integral part of film and game production, and it's also often used in television – such as news or weather forecasts. Once you upload a PNG to the input field, you can remove the chroma key by simply clicking on it in the preview. By default, the chroma key is set to "green" but if you have any other chroma key and know its exact name (hex code or RGB code), you can specify it in the options. If the pixels on the edges of objects are mixed with the chroma key color, you can get rid of them by increasing the color similarity threshold (by default, it's 10%) and perform additional edge cleanup via the "Smooth Object Edges" option (by default, the edge refine radius is 2 pixels). Remove Chroma Key from a Dog PNG

In this example, we upload a PNG image of a dog taken in a chroma key studio and remove the bright green background from it. As we don't know the exact code of the chrome key, we just click on the preview PNG and find the color code rgba(0, 240, 1, 255). We remove this color and also include close color tones in the removal, which are within 30% of the green hue. (Source: Pexels.)

Delete the Green Screen from a Tiny House

In this example, we delete the green screen from a PNG photo of a tiny house on the edge of a hill. To match all the green pixels, we delete all color shades that have 15% color similarity with the lime color. Additionally, to make sure no green pixels are left on the edges of the house, we turn on the "Smooth Object Edges" option with the feather radius of 1 pixel. Now the tiny house has a transparent background and you can combine it with any landscape. (Source: Pexels.)

Delete Blue Background

This example gets rid of the blue screen, which is also known as the blue chroma key. The RGB color code for the blue chroma key is rgb(0, 0, 255) and to also match all bluish pixels around the object border, it uses 23% similar color tone match. Any extra pixels that are left after this operation are refined via the edge smooting option with a radius of 3px.
