This browser-based tool converts a PNG image into a smooth fade-in animation. It generates a GIF file in which the image gradually fades in over a solid background until the PNG becomes fully visible. This kind of effect works well for product preview animations, website banners, loading screens, and PNG overlays that need to appear smoothly in videos or presentations. To get started, upload your PNG and set the initial background color. You can use black, white, or any custom color entered as a CSS color name, hex code, or RGB value. Next, select the fade style. You can make the entire PNG fade in evenly at once, or create a directional fade that moves from left to right, right to left, top to bottom, or bottom to top. After that, enter the fade-in time in seconds, for example, 4, 5.5, or 3.25. You can also set an additional display time to keep the PNG fully visible on screen after the fade-in finishes. The program automatically generates the required number of frames for a smooth fade-in and combines them into a GIF animation. GIF files do not support semi-transparent pixels, so the fade-in frames cannot store partial PNG opacity as real transparency. During the animation, fading pixels are composited over the selected solid background color to keep the GIF output valid. However, full transparency from the input PNG can still be preserved. When the transparency option is enabled, fully transparent PNG areas remain transparent in the output GIF, and the fade-in affects only the visible parts of the image. When the option is off, the background color fills all transparent areas, making the GIF fully opaque. The technical panel below the preview provides real-time export details, including the frame count, playback speed (delay), total duration, and final image dimensions. If your project requires the PNG to fade out into a color rather than fade in from one, switch to our Fade Out a PNG tool. Png-abulous!

In this example, we transform a static PNG of a city street into an animation that mimics a morning awakening. The image emerges from a solid black background using a full-image fade-in effect that lasts 1.2 seconds, as if sunlight is gradually dispelling the darkness. Once fully visible, the street photo remains on screen for an additional 1 second before the animation restarts. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we add an energetic bottom-to-top fade-in to a cute PNG of a bird preening its feathers on a rock by the ocean. We use a white background for a clean and airy look, and we set the fade duration to 2 seconds. We do not add any extra display time, so the GIF starts looping as soon as the bird becomes fully visible. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we create a presentation-style animation for photo editing lessons. We use a smooth right-to-left fade-in to show the final retouched portrait in a more engaging way. We choose a warm background color, set the fade-in time to 1.1 seconds, and keep the completed PNG visible for 5 seconds. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we make a sticker-style fade-in animation from a transparent PNG of an ice cream cone in a hand. We use a top-to-bottom fade, so the image fades gradually from the top downward. We preserve transparency, so the empty areas around the ice cream cone remain transparent, and the fade affects only the visible parts of the PNG. We set the fade-in time to 2 seconds and keep the finished image on screen for 3 more seconds. (Source: Pexels.)
