This browser-based tool lets you run comprehensive visual and technical tests on any PNG image. By uploading a single file, you can generate a preview canvas with multiple states that helps uncover hidden issues in your PNGs, verify transparency, analyze color channel distribution, and detect subtle artifacts. You can test the original PNG to see its file size, dimensions, and aspect ratio, and display the image in grayscale (showing the percentage of light and dark pixels) or with inverted colors (a negative version of the PNG). The tool provides a deep technical analysis of PNG transparency using specialized tests that generate binary masks for different pixel categories. In the opacity test, all pixels with alpha = 255 are displayed in black while others are white; in the transparency test, fully transparent pixels (alpha = 0) become black; and in the semi-transparency test, pixels with alpha between 0 and 255 are marked black. Additionally, the tool calculates the exact percentage of each pixel category, allowing you to quickly evaluate the PNG's transparency structure. You can also test individual red, green, and blue channels to visualize their intensities and determine the percentage of pixels that contain a nonzero R, G, or B component. Additionally, you can run an RGB-only test where the alpha channel is forced to fully opaque (alpha = 255), and a hard-alpha test (binary alpha) where all alpha values greater than 127 become fully opaque (255) and all values less than or equal to 127 become fully transparent (0). Furthermore, you can check how the PNG looks on light and dark surfaces by compositing it over solid white and black backgrounds. If you want to do deeper PNG testing, use our PNG Viewer, PNG Analyzer, and Multi-color Background Tester tools. Png-abulous!

In this example, we test a jellyfish PNG by generating six visual test modes at once. We display the original PNG for reference, then convert it to grayscale to analyze brightness distribution (30.62% light and 69.38% dark areas). Next, we invert the colors to reveal contrast differences. We also extract the red, green, and blue channels: the red channel appears in 47.45% of pixels, while the green and blue channels are present in all pixels. (Source: Pexels.)
This example focuses on PNG transparency testing: it generates three binary masks (opacity, transparency, and semi-transparency) so we can inspect where pixels are fully opaque, fully transparent, or partially transparent. We see semi-transparent pixels not only around the pepper outline but also inside the pepper, and this detection helps us avoid halos, blending issues, or conversion errors when the PNG is used on different backgrounds or converted to other formats. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we test how a PNG behaves without transparency by enabling RGB-only mode, which forces all pixels to be fully opaque. As a result, fully transparent areas turn black, and semi-transparent edge pixels become solid, producing unexpected color artifacts along the flower petals. We also apply a hard-alpha test that converts the alpha channel into a binary mask, separating pixels into fully visible and fully hidden groups. Finally, we preview the PNG on a black background to see how the current alpha values look on a dark surface. (Source: Pexels.)
