This browser-based tool finds and extracts the outline of an object within a transparent background PNG image. It identifies the visible object in the PNG file and creates a clean, two-tone mask that precisely traces its edges. You can specify the outline thickness in the options. For icons or small-sized PNGs, a stroke width of 1–3 pixels is usually sufficient, while high-quality logos or large PNGs may require a thickness between 4 and 20 pixels. Next, choose the outline position. The outline can be placed entirely outside the object's edge (in this case, the cutout of the outline will exactly match the shape and size of the object). It can also be drawn inside the object (so the outer edge of the outline aligns with the object's boundary). Or, it can be centered on the edge, half inside, half outside (a balanced contour where the original object's edge runs through the middle of the outline). If your PNG image has soft or anti-aliased edges, use the "Alpha Threshold" option to control which pixels are considered part of the object and which belong to the background. For example, setting a threshold of 0.4 means that any pixel with transparency greater than 60% (i.e., alpha < 0.4) is ignored and treated as background. This helps remove highly transparent, noisy pixels, generating an outline that matches the clearly visible silhouette of the PNG object. If you want the outline to follow only the outer edge of the object and ignore internal holes or transparent areas (for example, the inside of the letter "O" or cutouts in a logo or icon), enable the "Outline Only Outer Contour" option. Finally, you can adjust the appearance of the generated mask. Specify the outline color and background color, and optionally enable "Make Outline Smooth" to produce naturally semi-transparent pixels along the outline edges. Png-abulous!

In this example, we generate an outline around a single puzzle piece in PNG. We draw the outline exclusively on the outer side, which makes the resulting mask slightly larger than the original piece. We set a wide outline thickness of 15 pixels and choose colors that match the image’s tone: a soft background of rgb(219, 235, 235) and a coral outline of rgb(229, 141, 129). (Source: Pexels.)
This example demonstrates how to find the outline of a PNG image with heavily anti-aliased edges. The yellow petals gradually fade into transparency, so to correctly detect the object's boundary, we set the alpha threshold to 0.9. This means pixels more than 10% transparent are treated as background, while nearly opaque pixels are outlined. We generate a balanced, centered outline and enable the "Outline Only Outer Contour" option to avoid tracing gaps between the petals. The outline is crisp, without smoothing. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we generate a mask with a thin yet highly accurate outline around a bird PNG. The outline thickness is set to 4 pixels and is drawn along the inner edge of the bird and the branch, keeping the outline size identical to the original object. The alpha threshold is set to 0, meaning all pixels, including semi-transparent ones, are included in the contour. The outline is white against a RoyalBlue (#3b61aa) background with smooth edges enabled. (Source: Pexels.)
